LAKE MICHIGAN
Glittery black sand can be picked up with a magnet along the shores of Lake Michigan. Magnetite is often mistaken for pollution. This collection was picked up in South Haven, MI.

LAKE ERIE
This tiny rock collection is composed mostly of quartz, basalt, granite, and shale. The stones were scooped up along the pebbly shores of Erie, PA.

LAKE SUPERIOR
Red rhyolite is formed by rapidly cooled magma. This volcanic collection was picked up along Lake Superior's steep cliffs, near Duluth, MN.
